MIA MIA Brand Storytelling

CHALLENGE

Mia Mia is an independent cafe located in the quaint suburb of Higashi Nagasaki, near Ikebukuro, Tokyo. The cafe, founded by Vaughan and Rie Allison, focuses on third-wave style coffee, using Fuglen and Padre coffee beans. Prior to its opening, Mia Mia needed emotive and informative copy for its website and promotional materials. 「MIA MIA（マイアマイア）」は、*Fuglen と *Padre のコーヒー豆を使ったサードウェーブスタイルのコーヒー店。ファッションモデルやキュレーター、プロデューサーなど広い顔を持つVaughanと、彼の妻であるRie Allisonによって、2020年4月、豊島区東長崎の駅近くにオープンしました。
彼らは、カフェのオープン前、ウェブサイトとブランドストーリーを必要としていました。
*Fuglen：オスロ（ノルウェー）に本社を持つ、1963年創業のコーヒーショップ。2012年、日本に進出。東京・富ヶ谷の「フグレン トウキョウ」は、独特の酸味を特徴とする衝撃的なコーヒー体験をもたらしただけでなく、そのエリアの発展を牽引した。

SOLUTION

Y+L Projects conducted a series of sit down interviews and casual visits to the cafe during its development process to understand the cafe’s ideologies. Then we crafted Mia Mia’s brand story, which outlines its origin, ethos, and message. Y+L Projectsは、カフェのコンセプトをより深く理解するため、オーナー夫婦にインタビューを実施。リノベーション前の現場に繰り返し足を運び、お店ができていく様子を肌で体感したあとブランドストーリーを作成しました。
ブランドストーリーは、ソーシャルメディア、雑誌、プレスリリースなど、必要に応じて使い分けできるよう、単なるストーリーに留まらず、カフェの起源や、コーヒーのスピリチュアルな文化にも触れた内容としました。

RESULT

After consulting with Vaughan and Rie and re-crafting and perfecting the copy, Y+L Projects produced a brand story and copy that could be translated into Japanese and is now used as the main introduction text for the cafe’s website. This copy was created so it can be adapted for social media, magazine, press release, and other use in the future if need be. Opening in April 2020, Mia Mia has already received press coverage across a wide selection of Japanese print magazines and online media. オープンから1年経過した2021年春の時点で、Instagramのフォロワー数は7,000人を突破しています。ブランドストーリーは、現在もMIA MIAのウェブサイトからご覧いただけます。
