Context
NiSi Filters is a leading filter brand in the camera industry, loved by photographers and filmmakers worldwide. It has established flagship stores in Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Shenzhen in mainland China, building a passionate global fan base.
YL has supported NiSi Filters Japan in creative, design, and marketing for several years. What started as a partnership focused on social media strategy and content development has expanded into various initiatives, including video production using the cinema lens ATHENA PRIME LENS and developing an e-commerce platform.
Challenge
The challenge of extending NiSi Filters' influence from landscape photographers to filmmakers began in 2022. As demand for social media content surged and travel vloggers rose in popularity, the market value of Neutral Density (ND) filters also increased. In response, NiSi Filters needed to strengthen its positioning as a brand for filmmakers. The goal was clear: to expand brand awareness and establish NiSi Filters as an essential tool for video creators. To achieve this, we designed a comprehensive strategy.
Solution
1. Evolving the Social Media Strategy
We established four key content pillars to communicate the brand’s vision through social media:
- Life Through NiSi: Documentaries featuring photographers and filmmakers
- How I Shot This: Engaging reels showcasing the before-and-after effects of using NiSi filters
- Made with NiSi: Showcasing user-generated content (UGC)
- Announcement: Updates on new product launches and campaigns
By consistently creating content, we strengthened NiSi’s presence on social media and generated valuable visual assets for exhibitions and the website, helping to grow the community.
2. Video Production Featuring ATHENA PRIME LENS
In June 2023, NiSi Filters launched the ATHENA PRIME LENS—a cinema lens lineup featuring 14mm, 25mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm focal lengths. Despite its affordable price, the lens delivers cinematic bokeh and exceptional detail.
For its promotional video, YL collaborated with filmmaker Kazumi Watanabe and emerging artists to produce a piece highlighting NiSi’s artistic vision and technical excellence. Additionally, behind-the-scenes interviews were released to offer insights into the creative process.
3. Optimizing E-Commerce
NiSi Filters Japan’s online store was initially built on WooCommerce. YL supported its migration to Shopify to streamline management and ensure smoother, more stable operations.
Beyond just a sales platform, the e-commerce site was redefined as a key part of NiSi’s digital presence. Enhancements in customization and direct purchasing options were implemented to strengthen the brand experience, making it more compelling for customers to buy directly from NiSi.
Impact
This comprehensive strategy significantly boosted NiSi Filters’ recognition as a brand for filmmakers.
- Instagram followers increased by 300%
- Strengthened community engagement and brand interaction
- Overall brand sales doubled (compared to before the initiatives)
NiSi Filters has evolved into an indispensable brand not only for photographers but also for filmmakers.
Social media content planning and building
We launched the "Life Through NiSi" project to grow the community and convey the brand's vision in greater depth to users.
ATHENA PRIME LENS Video Production
We collaborated with filmmaker Kazumi Watanabe and enlisted emerging artists to create a video highlighting the brand's artistic vision and technical prowess.
E-commerce site building
We revamped NiSi Filter’s Japan e-commerce site, migrating it from WooCommerce to Shopify. We strengthened its customization options and built a system that encourages direct purchases without third-party intermediaries. The overall UI/UX of the site was also revamped, aligning its digital presence more closely with the product’s premium feel and quality.
